That’s exactly what Brazilian Jiu-jitsu teaches you to do using leverage, positioning, locks and chokes to neutralize an opponent. Gracie (Brazilian) Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a highly effective self-defense system of ground fighting. It is designed to allow people of all sizes to defend themselves in a real world situation that goes to the ground. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu does this by the detailed study of correct body mechanics, timing, and placement. This is good for the student because the methods are not based on strength or speed so the skills will not fade as will strength and speed. This is also in line with the self-defense mindset of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, meaning your training should prepare you for a street encounter where you don’t get to choose what weight class you will be fighting in. Classes are taught by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belts: Professor Chris Bumgarner and Professor Mike Wescott. Kids Program Detail: Let’s be real. Many kids today lead sedentary lifestyles that involve too much screen time. Kids need regular exercise to stay healthy. Our Jiu-Jitsu classes keep kids moving. They will develop greater strength, agility, flexibility and stamina within just a few weeks. The best part is that they will be having so much fun, they won’t even realize they are exercising! We all want to keep our kids safe from bullies and predators. Our Jiu-Jitsu program equips kids with practical, realistic tools to protect themselves. We teach our students to use their verbal skills to avoid violence whenever possible. They learn specific strategies and phrases to diffuse situations without using violence. If kids are attacked, they can draw on proven Jiu-Jitsu techniques to defend themselves. In our classes, they learn how to use leverage-based takedowns and control positions to tie up an attacker and neutralize the threat until help arrives. They also learn submission holds that help to end a fight without using punches or kicks.
